I can rarely read all the posts from people I follow on twitter anymore. I try to read everything on facebook but facebook itself is making that more difficult. I think people are likely to only stay active with one to three social networks, as that is about the limit they can handle. I think buzz is going to eliminate a number of the smaller "helper" social networks because it makes them unnecessary. Although it will be difficult to supplant facebook since it has passed a tipping point of usage in the population, buzz appears poised to also become one that people will not be able to get away from since it is so closely integrated into an already massively popular tool. I dont' even see how to turn off buzz if you wanted to, although you can filter out the messages from your inbox. Filtering the useful info from the crap will be an increasing challenge.Guy Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15213106041124027817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7228423590004138270.post-33066472533842299312010-02-10T16:30:00.876-07:002010-02-10T16:30:00.876-07:00Good read, Guy. I haven't had a chance to play with Buzz yet, but I'm already seeing a number of updates from people in my Buzz and I agree with you that it looks more interactive than Twitter.

On a tagent... this latest launch of a social networking app has put me into selection overload. I consider myself a fairly low transaction user of social networking apps, but yet I've already reached a point where I'm just about saying "Enough!". What's your opinion about the barrage of social networking apps? Do you think the increasing selection of apps will cause confusion and fracturing of virtual social networks?Jasonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07454052283390459060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7228423590004138270.post-85893884852423811802009-10-29T15:05:20.873-06:002009-10-29T15:05:20.873-06:00Solid piece of research. It's painfully funny, and all too true.DrewSkeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05004647346243230898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7228423590004138270.post-42537209948516473202008-06-25T14:17:00.000-06:002008-06-25T14:17:00.000-06:00Hi Guy, I was also in this SLA session and found ...Hi Guy,
I was also in this SLA session and found it to be lots of info coming at me really fast. Dave made me want to think about everything at once. I agree that Dave did turn a lot of what we think we know about KM inside out. Thanks for posting the notes.
EmilyEmily Glennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02744310351814756273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7228423590004138270.post-69901397071137867132008-05-14T14:36:00.000-06:002008-05-14T14:36:00.000-06:00Email from Senator Wayne Allard's officeDear Guy: ...Email from Senator Wayne Allard's office

Dear Guy:

Thank you for contacting me regarding copyright law and intellectual property rights. I appreciate you for taking the time to share your comments and concerns with me on this issue.

On July 24, 2007, Representative Steve Chabot introduced House Bill 3155, the Intellectual Property Enhanced Criminal Enforcement Act of 2007. This bill is intended to strengthen the protection of intellectual property by establishing criminal violations for any attempt or conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement. Additionally, H.R. 3155 would require forfeiture of any property gained from the proceeds of civil copyright infringement as well as require courts to order restitution for victims of criminal copyright infringement.

The protection of intellectual property rights and the sanctity of copyright protection is essential to the continued development of new technologies. Having strict intellectual property laws helps encourage entrepreneurs to establish innovative products which help further advance an already thriving United States and Colorado economy. I assure you I will keep your thoughts in mind, should this bill or any other bill regarding copyright infringement comes forth to the Senate Floor.
Thank you for writing to share your concerns. I look forward to hearing from you again. What's left is the digital watermark.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06107235500957303626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7228423590004138270.post-29619649324649353012008-05-06T16:59:00.000-06:002008-05-06T16:59:00.000-06:00An email I have received:Congressman Mark UdallSer...An email I have received:

Congressman Mark Udall
Serving Colorado's Front Range and Western Slope

Dear Mr. Mason:

Thank you for letting me know your thoughts on a Congressional proposal to address the so-called "orphan works" problem involving copyrights. I appreciate your taking the time to get in touch about this subject.

I know about the Copyright Office's report on problems faced by people who cannot find the holder of a copyright to get permission to use a copyrighted work and don't want to run the risk that the copyright holder might bring an infringement action if they use the work. The bill you mentioned, H.R. 5889, would address this by limiting awards in infringement cases if the defendant proves that: (1) he or she made a reasonably diligent but unsuccessful search for the copyright owner; and (2) the infringing use provided attribution to the author and owner of the copyright. In such cases, a copyright owner could win "reasonable compensation" unless (1) the use was without commercial advantage and primarily for charitable, religious, scholarly, or educational purposes; and (2) the infringement halts expeditiously after notice of the claim. A court could enjoin an infringement, but would have to consider harm caused to a defendant who did a reasonably diligent search; it could not enjoin continued preparation or use of a new work that recasts, transforms, adapts, or integrates the infringed work with the infringer's original expression if the infringer pays reasonable compensation and provides attribution to the copyright owner.

I can certainly appreciate your concerns with the bill, but as I am not a member of a committee responsible for its initial review I will not be directly involved in its consideration unless and until it is debated by the full House of Representatives. If that happens, I will remember the points you have made.

Thanks again for contacting me. To do my job well, I need to hear from my fellow Coloradans.
